Creativity that creates

DEFINING CREATIVITY

What exactly is 'creativity'?? Is it simply a drawing on paper that makes people goes 'WOW'?? Or is it just an art on canvas, walls etc?? Well, according to some artist,

"Creative is any act, idea, or product which changes the existing domain, or transform the existing domain into a new one. What counts is whether he or she produces is accepted for inclusion in the domain" - csikszentmihalyi

How about the picture on the left?? Haha, that is new for Bean.

To me, creativity is the ability to creates something new! New product... New ways to solve things... And new ideas that are unique and have an interesting values . The creativity is what colors the life all of us and also changes the perspective of some people too. For example, how the 'car' is designed... Some of the car have a basic shape of a circle but some of the car is square. There's might be a car that uses a triangle basic shape... Who knows? Haha.. There are a lot of examples in drawing too of course. Drawings like Pablo Picasso's painting, he uses a new technique which are unique, simple and very odd... BUT, he manage to attract people... Sooo, creativity are not that just for an eye catching... it is the idea that matters. :)

By the way, I have something to share with! :D A story!

We can be creative if we are trained from childhood and there is some people that are creative because they have the talent to do so.... I don't know which group I belong to though... haha. When I was a child, I like to play figures, toys, computer games, playstations (which is good ^^) and last but not least, a lego! :D All of these things helped me a lot in developing creative thinking. ^^
Top: Examples of toys (model) that helps develops creativity of mind.

Top: A screenshots from a game called 'Monster Hunter 3' It's cool right? Unique settings.

Moral of the story: Always let your child play games! Especially play station. ^^ *kidding*

Novelty Creativity, innovation and invention.

On the previous class, I was "entertained" by a documentary film about novelty, creativity, innovation and invention. The video shows a man talk about these things. The topic that they spoke of are somewhat opened up my mind a bit... They talk about how the creative people do their job. How they generates their ideas and so on..

CREATIVITY

The creative people are the ones who will generates new ideas for solving things and inventions... And they do it based on the creative processes. Creativity comes from our own mind and surroundings... It involves the translation of our unique gifts, talents and vision. To study creativity, we should not just study the person but also the mechanisms that stimulated their idea and the social network that recognized and spread their innovation. Here are some of the quotes about 'creativity' "The definite definition of the word creativity has long been an argument among many scholar and researchers" -Amabile, 1996. P 19 "Creativity is the process of generating something new that has value. There are many new ideas and concepts, but some may not have value and hence may not be considered creative. A creation is something original that has value"- Haggins, 1995,p. 3

INNOVATION

Actually, many people misunderstood the concept of innovations and creativity... Innovation are something that is already created but upgraded into more better 'something'... So, in other words, innovation is not creating a new ideas etc, but to improve it to become more usable, better etc.

Top pic: Thats an innovation!.... Sort of... -.-''

NOVELTY

Novelty is something new for me actually... From what I have learn, novelty is the quality of being new. Like a new style of arts such as abstract and impressionism. But.... I think this "something new is actually based on individuals to judge". The novelty in creativity is always based on what has been created before.... This is some what like innovation but it has it's own originality.

Top: an abstract art which is an improvement of the previous era of arts... But with its own originality.

Owh! And I have something that might look interesting. ^^ (It is from the notes my lecturers gave) Four categories of creative people:

1. Aesthetic Organizers
2. Boundary Pushers- those who take an existing idea and push it a little further.

3. Inventors- those who take existing knowledge and create new ideas- the Edisons of this world.

4. Boundary Breakers (The rarest group)- the leonardos and the Copermicuses.
